In Kotel Revisited, Raanan invites us to experience the Western Wall through the lens of contemporary fine art. Painted in acrylic on canvas, the iconic site is reimagined in striking black and white tones, layered with 50 shades of grey that evoke memory, reflection, and timelessness. These are gently warmed by peach undertones and lifted into a celestial sky brushed with soft white clouds.
Painted on an unmounted canvas laid across the studio floor, the artist later collaged the upper section onto a textured base created using natural coffee grounds. This organic medium adds both earthiness and visual texture, grounding the ethereal subject with tactile contrast and turning the painting into a multi-sensory experience. The interplay of dark and light, minimalist monochrome, and soft bursts of blue and warm color accents brings a sense of transcendence. From the coolness of stone, prayer rises, uplifting, intimate, and eternal. The result is a modern spiritual artwork that bridges tradition and contemporary expression, making it perfect for collectors of abstract religious art, textured wall art, and anyone drawn to paintings that merge
meaning with beauty.
