This large, expressionistic canvas was begun over twenty-five years ago, but it lay unfinished, being considered from time to time, but not painted upon. Only years later, it was completed by introducing purples and yellow to the earthy crimson browns and black. In a flash of action, fire and smoke burst forth from the paint. According to Raanan, the whole fire area was poured color that spilled over into the white border of the canvas and onto the floor. Soaring color gives the immediacy of a rumbling and vibrating energy, of a holy fire descending upon Mount Sinai.
