Painted with a limited palette of black, red and ochre, this canvas is deceptively simple. When first looking at the painting, one sees a bright light coming out of the darkness. This flash of light looks as though it is framed by two tablets that are on fire, hinting at the revelation of the Ten Commandments. Only later do we notice the (faceless) image of a golden calf.
