Blue King

2003

“...Self mastery is the quality of a king. Be vigilant in your control over the self. If you cannot respond to your will, how can you expect others to respond?”

Sanskrit Vedas

Tchelet,' or Blue significance lies in the commandment for tzittzit, the fringes of the garments, which is said to induce men to gaze upon them, which will bring to mind all the commandments of God.. and so will lead to the fulfillment of the commandments.' (Gershom Scholem) The Kabbalists associated this tchelet with the sefira of Malchut, saying that 'To him who keeps the commandment of the tassels, it is as if the countenance of the Shekhina were revealed to him (Gershom Scholem).'

Malchut is associated with King David. It is sometimes called 'Kingdom.' It receives its crown from above, and bestows it below. Malchut takes us from source through channel to ourselves as receivers and givers. 'Mem, Lamed, Kaph,' is also the root of Melekh, the word for 'King.' Malchut is the connection point between our world and the world of the Eternal One, providing a link to the infinite. This conduit is the interface, the threshold, between our humble selves and the Divine Shekinah. When we open ourselves to the higher force, and invite the Creator to come down to our world, Malchut is the 'Throne' in our hearts. Through meditation and prayer we draw the Divine energy into our kaph our soul vessel. When we 'become the throne,' our ego is dissolved by the presence of the Creator Before Time. We release our judgements and are filled with divine radiance. We exchange self-satisfied cleverness for a taste of true wisdom.' [Rabbi Marcia Prager, The Path of Blessing]

The color blue is most often used to symbolize truth and true wisdom. Moses was ordered to make the ephod (garments) of the high priests out of blue, 'to symbolize that the true priest of God was to abound in truth.
